Committee on Education and the Workforce

EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMS
REPEALED AND CONSOLIDATED
DURING THE 104TH AND 105TH CONGRESS
(Updated February 1, 1999)

Creating a Smaller, Smarter Government

The Committee on Education and the Workforce has done its part to create a smaller, smarter, more common sense government. Under the leadership of Chairman Bill Goodling, the Committee has repealed or consolidated 144 duplicative or narrowly-focused programs into larger, more flexible programs that can better meet the needs of local communities. By reducing the number of programs Washington bureaucracies have to administer, more funds can be spent directly on program beneficiaries. The following list identifies those programs that have been repealed and consolidated during the 104th and 105th Congress.
